Don’t like salad? Is gnawing on leaves and raw vegetables a chore for you rather than a joyous foodie experience? If so, getting a hefty dose of the superpowers found in green leafy plants is likely a daily challenge. Here are 4 unsalad ways to maximize the intake of healing and energizing green food without all that chopping and crunching.
IT’S NOT ABOUT THE CHOPPING
It’s a no-brainer that we need to eat a lot of greens every day. The goldmine of nutrients in leafy plants will keep us youthful and free from disease. However, leaves are not yummy (in my opinion). I just don’t like salad. I don’t mind chopping at all; however, spinach, kale, lettuces, and all the other superfoods that we absolutely must get in every single day don’t excite me. However, you will still see me leaving the market each week with an impressive load of fresh, organic green leafy plants. That’s because I have several unsalad ways of getting them in.
1. SAVOURY SMOOTHIES
I think cold soup is an abomination, yet somehow the idea of a savory smoothie seems to work for me. I recently completed the 3:6:9 Liver Cleanse by Medical Medium Anthony William, which includes a recipe for Spinach Soup. The soup is meant to be served cold to preserve its cleansing powers, and it is delicious. I drink it from a tall glass with a straw and as long as I think of it as a savory smoothie and not cold soup, I actually enjoy it.
Savoury Spinach Smoothie (AKA Medical Medium Spinach Soup)
Ingredients:
- 1-pint grape tomatoes
- 1 stalk celery
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 orange
- 4 cups baby spinach
- 2 basil leaves or a few sprigs of cilantro
- 1/2 to 1 cucumber
RECIPE: Medical Medium Liver Rescue, Anthony William
2. SNEAK SOME SALAD IN
You won’t even notice the taste of a handful of spinach blended into a fruit smoothie. If it’s a dark anti-oxidant rich berry blend, it won’t turn your drink bright green. Try a different leafy green every day for maximum cleansing and healing. Just do it!
3. WILTED GREENS
Hot and hearty plant-based soups are a staple in my diet. I often throw a handful of spinach into my soup after cooking or reheating. This will wilt the greens slightly and preserve more nutrients than cooking them within the soup.
4. POWDER IS FOR CHEATERS
You can call me a cheater, I won’t deny it I feel no guilt about it. I take most of my greens in powder form every day. A few scoops of Spirulina and Barley Grass juice powder do turn my fruity sweet smoothies into a dark swampy green, but it’s how I get the good stuff into my body. I also drop a scoop of Athletic Greens powder into a bottle of OJ and that gets me quickly fueled and out the door in the morning. Use my code for a bonus 5 free travel packs of Athletic Greens.
GET YOUR GREENS EVERY DAY
Even if you don’t like salad, these tricks should help you up your dose of green leafies.
