Love at first blend? My newest travel wellness tool shakes things up

Blendjet | Shari Zisk
I received a Blendjet rechargeable travel blender for Christmas. What a smart gift for a smoothie junkie who travels a lot. I brought my blender on my latest trip to New York for a test drive and am so excited to have a new wellness tool for the road.

I’ve been blending daily for almost 20 years and I am very accustomed to the beast of a motor in my beloved Vitamix so I wasn’t sure I could get attached to a portable blender.

I tried the lightweight (1lb) blender while staying in a teeny tiny hotel on the Lower East Side in Manhattan with my family. Keeping my active toddler nourished and my husband’s immune system boosted was a top priority on this trip and I was able to give the Blendjet blender a very fair 10-day trial.

After a quick shop at Whole Foods I was able to stock up my hotel mini fridge and start each day with the following energizing and immune boosting  blends.

MY STAY HEALTHY IN NEW YORK RECIPES

Toddler quickie breakfast shake

I served up a well-received creamy chocolate shake to my 4-year old and we hit the streets of Manhattan nourished and energized.

Almond milk
Vega One chocolate powder
Fresh organic blueberries

Heavy metal mama shake

I’ve been following Medical Medium’s protocol for removing Heavy Metals from the body. I try to drink a Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie every day. I use Vimergy Barley grass juice powder and Spirulina powder which come in pouches that are easy to travel with so I threw them in my suitcase. In the past I rarely travelled with these powders because I absolutely refuse to drink these powders when mixed in a shaker cup. Too clumpy, yuck. I love the results with the Blendjet.
This isn’t the full HMDS recipe, it’s my travel friendly modified version:

Orange juice
Coconut water
Barley grass juice powder (Vimergy)
Spirulina powder (Vimergy)

Vitamin C shock therapy

It’s frosty in New York and the whole city is sniffling. Every morning I made batches of the Medical Medium’s Vitamin C Shock Therapy blend to keep our immune systems boosted.

2 capsules Ester-C
water (or coconut water)
2 teaspoons raw honey
Orange juice, freshly squeezed  (There is a fresh orange juice press at Whole Foods)

Plus I added…
                     Zinc (1 dropper full)
                     Lemon Balm (1 dropper full)

TIPS FOR THE NEXT TRIP

At only 12 ounces, this blender is quite small. Once you fit both liquid and powder in the container the resulting beverage is rather small. Blending for 3 people is a bit of a chore. It worked seamlessly for our immune boosting shots and toddler drink but not for the 16 oz smoothies I usually drink. This is really a short term solution and would be maddening as a permanent tool.

One night I forgot to plug in the blender and there wasn’t enough power for the next morning’s batch of shakes. According to Blendjet the battery will power 8-12 smoothies. It has a USB port for charging which takes between 1-3 hours.  I think we only made 4 shakes that day but it used up the battery so make sure to charge it up before you go to bed.

The only solid I added was fresh blueberries. Some blended well but there were also some chunks. The built in strainer is helpful but I think I will stick to powder and only super soft foods.

I am completely content to drink right out of the blender, it has a smooth drinking edge. However next time I will bring a reusable travel cup with a straw for my messy and spill prone toddler.

Although the Blendjet blender is supposed to be self-cleaning, next time I will bring a travel tube of eco-friendly dish soap to clean up in the hotel.  It does need a scrub after each use.

Having one more charging wire to keep track of isn’t ideal both while traveling and storing at home. I’m going to label the charging cord and find a smart spot to store it at home.

BLENDJET BLENDER SAVES TIME AND MONEY

It’s not difficult to find healthy spots to super nourish in New York. The city is full of awesome juice bars, vegan cafes and superfood shops. However NYC is a pricey town and we saved a lot of time and money by blending in-hotel. I will definitely travel with my Blendjet blender again but I was pretty happy to get home to my sweet Vitamix blender.

Check out the rainbow of pretty Blendjet colors!

Happy Travel Blending,
