10 year blogging anniversary (2009-19)

Shari Zisk B.A., 10 year blogging anniversary (2009-19)
It’s the 10 year anniversary of my Radiance Wellness blog, now rebranded as Sharizisk.com. For a full decade I have been writing about getting sweaty, nourishing with superfoods and using clean beauty and home products. I started my fitness and wellness blog in 2009. At the time I was 12 years into my fitness career and  ready to start sharing everything I had learned about sculpting bodies and leading a healthy and active lifestyle. Read my fitness biography here

The world’s first fitness blogger

In 2009 blogging was relatively new. WordPress and Twitter were just picking up steam and Instagram hadn't even launched yet. I started crafting fun and educational articles about fitness, fell in love with blogging and became one of the first fitness bloggers ever! Companies started sending me their products to review and my inbox started filling with media inquiries. I couldn’t believe the effervescence that resulted from writing a few articles. I was hooked.

This blog cost me my job

One day my boss pulled me into his office. He said that he felt like my fitness blog was beginning to build my personal profile and that it was in competition with the ‘company’, a boutique personal training studio I managed and trained clients for.  Shortly thereafter I was told the budget could no longer afford my position. I was out of a job.

Confused, I went back and reviewed the blog articles I had written and almost every article on my new fitness blog had links back to the ‘company’. I featured interviews with staff from the ‘company’. I raved about programs offered at the ‘company’. In several photos I was wearing the ‘company’ logo on my clothing. My contact information was the ‘company’ phone number. I couldn’t understand how this ’social media’ was a bad thing.  My personal blog was essentially advertising for the company. And it was getting noticed.

After losing my job I removed any references and links to the ‘company’. The last thing I heard about that ‘company' was from a former client of theirs who was in the middle of a workout when a bailiff arrived, kicked them out of the building and put chains on the doors. I guess I had gotten out in time!

It’s been a busy decade

During the last 10 years I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel extensively with my fitness career. I have attended amazing fitness conferences, expos and courses all across North America. I have tried a lot of awesome fitness classes, gear, gadgets and clean beauty products. I moved from my home country of Canada to the USA and have since lived in Los Angeles, New York City, and Atlanta. I married an incredible human being whose dedication to healthy living far surpasses my own. I became a step-mom and had a beautiful baby. These big changes come with a lot of new insight and wisdom I am excited to share.

Fitness dreams really do come true

My love for fitness started in my early teens. I purchased my first issue of Shape Magazine when I was 16 years old.   Pro volleyball player and fitness model Gabrielle Reece became my role model for her incredible athleticism and unique beauty. Around the same time I joined my first gym membership and starting working out regularly.
Fast forward 25 years and I am now living and breathing all of my fitness dreams. With a degree in human kinetics and 20 years of fitness industry experience, I am living it up!
After getting married I moved to LA, and the ultimate neighborhood of fitness celebrities.  Occasionally I see super trainer Jillian Michaels at the farmers market, pro surfer Kelly Slater doing a killer 'rock' workout on the beach near my home, or I'll do a Yoga class next to fitness celeb Brooke Burke. The worlds fittest man Rich Roll chills in the neighborhood and coincidentally, Gabrielle Reece lives just down the beach from me. It’s all pretty exciting for this small town fitness junky!

The new blog

Now in 2019 after 20 years in the fitness industry and 10 years of blogging, I have the opportunity to explore my favorite fitness and wellness topics and write full time. And boy do I have a lot of sweaty, nourishing, glowing stories to share. There will be lot of construction here for a while as I rebrand and rebuild. Check out my upcoming editorial calendar. These are the exciting new articles coming soon to sharizisk.com.

My personal wellness shift

Pumped up biceps, abdominal toning and fat blasting are still a part of my life. I still love to pump up my arms a few times a week with classic bodybuilding moves. And my blender still runs several times a day with superfood smoothies. However an incredible shift has happened and my gym rat days are long gone. I’ll tell you what’s changed over the decade.

My new approach to weightloss

I’ve been a personal trainer for 20 years. My approach to guiding my clients weightloss has changed dramatically. With apologies to all of my former clients, I embark on a new type of personal training career without all of the crunches and whey powder.

My favorite wellness finds of 2018

I was on the road for most of 2018. I explored New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Toronto and found some really awesome health, fitness and beauty must-haves.

What's new in exercise science

I guess I won't be squeezing my glutes or pulling in my belly button anymore when I exercise. You won't believe what the research is showing about exercise.

Oh, hello liver!

I share my 15 year healing journey as I search for a cure for my Vitiligo.

Goodbye aluminum

I have purged my liver, my home and my cosmetics of this sneaky metal. But it’s still everywhere and it’s so toxic.

5 wellness things I do differently now

My skincare routine, my workouts, my morning smoothie, my protein intake and my supplements have changed a lot since 2009. I’ll tell you what I’m into now.

All things Medical Medium

Have you heard about the celery juice movement? I have read all of Medical Medium Anthony Williams’s books, listened to the podcasts, attended a live healing & reading, and completed the 369 liver cleanse. Is the Medical Medium for real? I’ll be writing a lot about weightloss, energy and healing Medical Medium style.

What is Resonance Repatterining?

Learn how this unique coaching/therapy/spiritual/healing work helped me find love, health and success.

Posture perfection

I’m still obesessed with alignment and it’s importance for looking and feeling great. Hunched over teens roam the streets everywhere, let’s get on top of this and straighten up, especially our youth.

RIE for baby fitness and development

I discovered RIE just before I had my baby. I applied the RIE principles of movement and am convinced that it’s the reason behind my little guy’s incredible balance, coordination, and body awareness. Learning to walk, balance, posture and motivation in the first year of life has clear and strong links to athleticism. This is a really important topic for new parents.

Fitness equipment reviews

I’ll tell you all about my new favorite myofascial roller, my Peloton cycle, my rock workouts, and more.

Fitness class sampler

Hello Atlanta! I moved to a new city and have a fresh bunch of gyms and classes to try. Plus I have a busy travel schedule for 2019. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Motivation

I have been earning achievement badges from my cycle workouts on my Peloton, the books I listen to on Audible, and from my language learning app.  What motivates you to become and stay active? This topic has always fascinated me.
