Since my teens, I have been obsessed with pumping iron and drinking green smoothies.  I became a personal trainer, and now, after 20 years in the fitness industry, I am a 40+ mama, and I do things so very differently.  I discovered a lot during my two decades on the training room floor and through my personal healing journey, and I have wholly pivoted in my approach as a personal fitness and wellness coach.

Now, I teach people how to sweat, nourish, and glow from an entirely new perspective. 

BEAUTY ON THE INSIDE

For 20 years, I lived and breathed all things fitness and wellness, but I still couldn’t overcome a disfiguring autoimmune disorder that slowly destroyed my skin pigment, leaving pure white patches of skin all over my body, including my face. Yes, just like Michael Jackson and Winnie Harlow, I have Vitiligo. It’s been 20 years of seeking the cause and cure for this painless but life-altering disorder.
I think I am onto something, and I can’t wait to share my journey.

THE BIG SHIFT!

What I learned on my healing journey has COMPLETELY altered my approach as a personal trainer and wellness coach. Losing weight, sculpting muscles, feeling great, boosting energy… whatever your health, performance, and physique goals are, I CAN NOT offer the same guidance now that I used to for so many years.
It's archaic.
Burn the textbooks.
Trash the old programs.
The old ways cannot work in this day and age.

On my journey, I also met and married an incredible human being whose dedication to healthy living surpasses mine. I became a stepmom and had a beautiful baby. These significant changes also come with a lot of new insight and wisdom that I am excited to share.

On the Radiance Wellness blog, I review fitness and wellness books, classes, and gadgets. I design intelligent and fun workouts.  I sample clean beauty and home products. I travel a lot and love to share my fitness on-the-road strategies and review wellness destinations. I also love sharing insider tips and industry knowledge for those considering becoming a fitness leader. And it’s all from my fresh new perspective.

It's a mystery what will unfold in 2024 in light of all the changes in our world. However, I am back on the road and doing what I love.  I am exploring the best juice bars, cafes, gyms, classes, gadgets, gurus, and celebs. I can't wait to share the sweaty and juicy details.

I am a MELT METHOD Level II instructor
What is MELT? 
The more I become educated about fascia and its many roles, the more I believe an intelligent fitness program must include fascia work. I incorporate fascia hydration into my personal training sessions and classes whenever possible. The MELT Method is a self-care practice that uses small balls and soft foam rollers to hydrate the fascia.

Who am I?

 

I was born and raised in British Columbia Canada. I am now a new resident of Atlanta Georgia.

I studied kinesiology (Human Movement) and earned my degree at the University of Victoria (2000). I put myself through university working in fitness centers and personal training clients in their homes. I have been a certified personal trainer since 1997. Read my full fitness bio.

I became a new Mom in Fall 2015.

I am a fitness conference junkie and attend as many events as I can. 

I have absolutely no coordination and can’t hear the beat of the music so aerobics and dance-style fitness classes are out of the question for me.

I originally wanted to go to business school and study marketing but ended up with a human kinetics degree. In the meantime, I continued to study marketing and advertising on my own and now love to ‘sell fitness’. 

My Great, great grandfather was an official  Swiss mountain guide from the Alps region of Switzerland. In early 1900 he and his sons went to Canada and made hundreds of first peak ascents in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

My wellness exploration started in my early teens. I discovered the ‘gym’ as a drop-in guest of one of my best friends who had a membership to Jump & Pump (Yes, that was the name of the gym). I fell in love with fitness and soon became obsessed with ensuring my workouts were intelligent and my body was fueled daily with optimum amounts of vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and muscle-building protein. I needed to make sure I was fully fueled for my workouts and sufficiently nourished to recover from them. It inspired me to spend 5 awesome years studying human movement at university (UVic 2000).

Holistic Healing- Do you know anyone who isn't battling a health condition? I check out the research and anecdotal stories about herbs, supplements, and alternative healing strategies.

Clean Beauty- Do you know how many chemicals are banned from cosmetics in Europe? It's time you did. I think they know something we don't. I like to find the cleanest creams, make-up, and hair goop.

Body Sculpting- What does it take to shape your physique? I write about training techniques, fat loss, and a bit about nutrition.

Gear and apparel- What's hot and trendy, and what works? I love trying out new equipment and sharing the good and the bad. I am a fitness conference junkie and share all the fantastic and cheesy stuff I discover.

Teen fitness- I am a big promoter of the critical importance of youth being vigorously physically active throughout their teen years.

Posture- I speak about posture ALOT and share how to assess and correct your alignment to eliminate aches and pains and look younger and more fit.

Active aging- I share the many benefits of staying active throughout one's lifespan and how to get active. It's never too late to start.

In the in the whole-person wellness model, which includes six dimensions: physical, spiritual, emotional, vocational intellectual and social.

That bodies of all ages benefit from physical activity.

That regardless of ability, people can embrace a wellness lifestyle.  

That daily fresh air, pure water, sunshine, life-giving food and movement are essential for health and vitality.

In a natural method of healthcare that focuses on the whole person and that healing occurs from within, not from a pill .

That our emotions are intricately linked to our body, and negative emotions should be addressed for whole-person wellness to be achieved.

That we all prosper when we surround ourselves with, and do business with wholesome, caring people.

That being active should be fun!
