I often think that I should remove the “what are your goals?” section of my New Client Questionnaire. Almost everyone checks the same three goals: lose weight, tone up, get healthy.
It is my job to dig a little deeper and help you refine those goals so they are specific, measurable, and realistic and have an emotional element to them. However, there are an endless number of unexpected benefits of getting fit that we don’t even plan for, they just sort of happen and people end up stumbling across them much to all of our surprise.

Here are 7 reasons why I do not do full intensity workouts for one-time clients or on the first training session:
Core function
Unless they have had previous training, 90% of the people I work with for the first time are unable to voluntarily contract their Transversus Abdominis (TVA). TVA stabilizes the spine to protect it from injury and provides a foundation of support to optimize ALL movement. Of course I will not challenge you if your core is not ‘turned on’. That is the question CBC News Canada asked Canadians recently in response to new research that shows that Canadian children are becoming alarmingly overweight and are presenting with obesity associated lifestyle diseases.
